Beleda – Our greatest oenological pride

Beleda finds its origins among the evocative hills of Alcamo, in the heart of Western Sicily, where a millennia-old viticultural tradition has been handed down uninterrupted through centuries. In this sun-drenched land of fertile, sandy hills, numerous native grape varieties thrive—but it is the white grapes, and especially Catarratto, that dominate the local ampelographic landscape, emerging as the true protagonist of this generous territory.

Catarratto represents the cornerstone upon which Rallo Winery has invested with conviction and passion, recognizing its extraordinary yet untapped potential. From this bold oenological endeavor, Beleda was born with the 2011 harvest, embarking on a journey to rediscover and elevate this remarkable native grape.

A significant portion of the Vesco family vineyards, located in the Pattipiccolo district of Alcamo, is dedicated exclusively to Catarratto—carefully tended vines forming the heart and backbone of the winery’s production. Once relegated as a blending variety to lend structure to northern wines, Catarratto now shines through meticulous vineyard and cellar experimentation, revealing its full expressive power while respecting tradition.

Beleda presents itself as a wine of rare elegance and refinement. On the nose, complex and graceful nuances emerge: the lively freshness of ripe citrus, the poetic delicacy of spring wildflowers, the gentle sweetness of pear, and the aristocratic notes of white-fleshed fruits intertwine into a bouquet of extraordinary finesse.

On the palate, it reveals a wine of bold character and personality, with captivating gustatory tension and a juicy minerality that harmonizes with opulent, refined fruit. Its structure is impeccably balanced and persistent, with crystalline savoriness reflecting the Franco-sandy soils of its origin. Vibrant freshness seduces the palate, inviting further sips, while the finish lingers long and satisfying, echoing ripe fruit with subtle saline hints reminiscent of the Sicilian sea breeze.

A Product of great elegance

The elegance of Beleda shines brightest when paired with the most authentic dishes of Sicilian culinary tradition. It elevates regional pasta dishes—particularly pasta with “broccoli arriminati”, a rustic preparation that celebrates the island’s genuine flavors—where its freshness perfectly balances the savoriness of traditional ingredients. It also pairs beautifully with locally produced soft cheeses, such as fresh sheep’s ricotta or primo sale, creating sublime gustatory harmonies that honor the authenticity and integrity of the territory.

The name Beleda originates from the Andalusian pilgrim Ibn Jubair, who in 1185 described Alcamo in his Travel Diary as a “prosperous little town with a market and a mosque”—symbols of a thriving and cosmopolitan community. Choosing this name for the wine is deliberate: it forms a bridge between past and present, paying tribute to the cultural richness and historical layers of a land shaped by successive civilizations, each leaving indelible marks on its landscape, culture, and gastronomy.

In this way, every bottle of Beleda becomes a guardian of ancient memory, a voice for a territory that has preserved its identity through the centuries, transforming cultural diversity into richness and uniqueness.

The label

Evoking the textured elegance of crumpled paper, the label’s folds resemble an imaginary origami that mirrors the rolling hills of Sicily. Three refined golden foils capture and reflect the light, symbolizing the precious plots of land cultivated with Catarratto, immortalized as if seen from a satellite overlooking the Alcamo territory.

This design goes beyond aesthetics—it is a tribute to the land itself. Each golden foil represents a vineyard, and every fold in the paper echoes the undulating hills that host the vines, creating an unbreakable connection between the wine in the bottle and the land that gave it life.
